BC Hardwood areas served. British Columbia is a province that is the home to some of the most amazing wooded wilderness areas in Canada. Located in the central mountains of British Columbia, the Caribou Mountains provides some of the best wilderness hiking in all of North America. Other great hiking destinations include the Campbell River and Kootenay National Park. For those who enjoy backpacking, the Okanagan’s Mount Alexander is a very popular hiking location. However, the BC backcountry also offers some of the best wildflower meadows and berry bushes in the world.
British Columbia’s wine country is also another draw for visitors. There are many winery tours in the Okanagan, as well as trips out to the many vineyards in Washington State’s wine country. The fine wines of British Columbia compliment the region’s delicious food. A variety of foods are offered at outdoor cafes, pubs, and restaurants throughout British Columbia. Some of the most popular food include salmon, beef, turkey, and venison. Of course, dairy products are found in abundance as well, including butter, yogurt, milk, and cheese.
Another wonderful attraction to check out in British Columbia is the Okanagan’s wildflowers. These areas offer spectacular sights of wildflowers throughout the year, especially during the springtime. In addition to the wildflowers, many parks and conservation areas offer hiking, cycling, and wildlife watching adventures. Many of the parks also serve as a gateway to BC’s wilderness regions, such as the Okanagan.
In addition to BC’s natural beauty, visitors can take a trip into one of its many historic areas. Marblehead, Campbell River, Kootenay, and Okanagan Falls are just some of the notable areas. Within an hour or so of any of these areas, you can find a variety of attractions. Some of these include: the Okanagan Mountain Railway, Denny Mountain, the Sunshine Coast, the Caribou Pass Hotel and Casino, and the Spirit Mountain Wilderness Lodge. Campbell River is a BC Heritage Site that offer visitors old growth forests, lovely lakes and islands, and historic cottages. On the other end of the spectrum, Kootenay is noted for its outstanding mountain, desert, and fresh water lakes; some of which are served by the Okanagan Hydroelectric Power Commission.
And if you’re looking to explore some BC’s historic caves and mines, it won’t be a bad idea to look around either in Campbell River or Kootenay. Many of the caves in this area were formed millions of years ago, and offer visitors the chance to dig up dinosaur bones and view the amazing colors of nature. If you’re a more “outdoorsy” person (and who isn’t these days), then there are plenty of campgrounds in the area that allow camping, with many of them being serviced by theBC Wildfoods Resource Centre. The Okanagan Forest Service also offers guided tours of the forest, and visitors can take a bike-ride through some of the wooded mountains in the area.
When exploring the many British Columbia hardwood areas, be sure to bring your camera! There is so much to see and photograph. In fact, if you love to photograph things, it is likely you will want to stay in one of the many remote bays in this region. For those who like to camp, there are some great campsites in this area. These sites allow families to spend some time on the beach, and their children get to learn a few things while they are having fun at the same time. All in all, this area offers a variety of experiences that will make every visitor to stop and take a look.
